CULTURAL TREASURES THAT SURROND US

Richmond, September 1^st 2026 - The MRC du Val St-François annonces the completion major repair work on the La Cantonnière cycling network. Part of the Sentier de la Rive, located in the Township of Melbourne, will be closed as of September 1^st, 2026. This closure affects a portion of the Route Verte, the Sentier Transcanadien, the Sentiers de l'Estries and the following gravel bicycle roads: La Pédal'eau, Entre monts et rivières, la Valcampagnarde and la Contemplative.

Valued at nearly $1 million, this work aims to improve the quality safety and durability of a section of the cycling network. It includes replacing culverts, resurfacing the roadway, and improving drainage.

To allow the work can be carried out safely, the Sentier de la Rive will be completely closed between Garret road and the noth end of Rivière road (Greenlay street north) in the Township of Melbourne. The trail is scheduled to reopen on May 15^th, 2027, when the cycling network reopens.

No official detours are planned during the work. However, users are invited to use, at their convenience, the nearby road network in order to continue their journey.

This project is being carried out thanks to fiancial support of the Gouvernment of Quebec under the Financial Assistance Program for Active Transportation Infrastructure - Véloce III (component 2) of the Ministère des Transports et de la Mobilité durable du Québec and under the "Signature innovation" component of the Fonds régions et ruralité of the Ministère des Affaires municipales et de l'Habitation. This project was also funded in part by a grant from the Sentier Transcanadien to improve the local section of the Trail.

The MRC would like to thank trail users for their understanding and cooperation during the closure period. These interventions will help preserve this important recreational and utilitarian link and provide an improved experience for cyclists and other users at the end of the work.
