ROAD AND PARK MAINTENANCE WORKER

Regular seasonal position

Under the supervision of the road maintenance supervisor, the person in this position performs, as needed, all tasks related to the maintenance, repair, and improvement of the road network (roads, ditches, culverts, signage, guardrails); maintains green spaces, municipal buildings, and parks; drives vehicles; uses various light and portative equipment.

Primary responsibilities :

  • Patrolling the road network, maintaining it, and repairing it as needed and according to the season. Checking fences, repairing them, or building them if necessary;
  • Installing and maintaining traffic signs, road signs, notices, etc.;
  • Transport and move materials such as gravel, sand, or other equipment.
  • Assist contractors with preventive maintenance and construction of municipal infrastructure.
  • Act as a traffic flagger as needed.
  • Operate various machinery such as graders, tractors, light vehicles, compactors, etc.
  • Use various light equipment such as chainsaws, compressors, lawn mowers, brush cutters, or other similar equipment;
  • Maintain municipal parks, water flowers, mow lawns, repair playground equipment, and perform other tasks as deemed necessary. Cut overgrown brush and high grass that could obstruct visibility around signs and at intersections. Perform work such as tree felling, pruning and brush clearing.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and minor mechanical repairs on municipal equipment, general maintenance of municipal buildings and parks, including various tasks such as painting, carpentry, and others;
  • Manage the Styrofoam drop-off point;
  • Assist your immediate supervisor with special and occasional assignments, such as handling evening and weekend calls and making the necessary observations in the field;
  • Perform any other tasks deemed related.

Required skills, abilities, and qualities :

  • High school diploma ;
  • Vocational diploma in heavy equipment operation would be an asset;
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license;
  • Valid Class 3 driver’s license would be an asset;
  • Construction site safety certification;
  • Demonstrate manual dexterity and knowledge of maintenance and construction work;
  • Ability to use the necessary tools and equipment;
  • Ability to work safely by applying workplace safety measures;
  • Ability to work as part of a team and demonstrate versatility;
  • Ability to work in different weather conditions;
  • Be available, honest, reliable, resourceful, and self-sufficient;
  • Have good manual dexterity and be in good physical condition;
  • Demonstrate tact and courtesy.          

Salary and working conditions :

  • Regular seasonal position from early May to mid-October, 40 hours per week, spread over 4.5 days;
  • Remuneration based on experience and skills;
  • Desired start date: April 27th, 2026.
